If you have never experienced the Rocky Horror Picture Show in a theatre before, you are considered a "virgin." For Rocky Horror virgins, it's very easy to learn the basics for audience participation, what props are used, and of course, how to dress. Many Rocky Horror groupies like to dress like their favorite character at screenings.

If you are headed to Rocky Horror screening, expect to see many audience members wearing a Rocky Horror Picture Show Columbia Costume. One of the most popular will no doubt be a Frank Furter Costume. Dr. Frankenfurter is a central character in the movie, and one of the most popular characters to dress as. The Fancy Dress Costume is fairly simple to create. The first thing you will need is black briefs with garter stockings. Next, you will need long black fingerless gloves. The gloves should extend from elbow length with the fingers cut off at the knuckle. A black corset shirt for the top and black high heels to complete the look. Then you will just need to pick up a black Frank Furter Wig.

Another popular Rocky Horror Costume is that of Magenta, the twisted maid. This will also be a simple adult costume to create, starting with a black maid dress. The dress should be close to sleeveless and come down to mid thigh. The Rocky Horror Magenta Costume should have a white head piece to accentuate the maid costume. A white apron and black stockings are the next items to add to your costume. Footwear can be black pumps or boots. But dont forget to get your wild red wig! You can get many stles of the Magenta Wig.

There are several other character costumes to choose from. Dr. Frankenfurter's servant is an easy character to create a costume for.  To create the Riff Raff Costume you will need a long grey wig and torn up clothes will do in a pinch. The Rocky Horror Columbia Costume may be a little more difficult to create a costume for. You will need to find a red bow tie. A gold sequin tailcoat, sequin tube top, striped shorts, sequin bowtie and hat complete the costume. Of course if you really want the easy way out for character costumes, the roles of Brad and Janet have no discernible costume needs.
